About
the Coalition
The Coalition for School Funding Reform is a grassroots
coalition based in Central Illinois working toward fundamental changes in the way public education is funded.
Even though it is one of the wealthiest states in the nation, Illinois ranks 49th in state support of K-12 public education. Our current funding system, based in large part on property taxes, creates a tremendous burden for businesses, farms and families while generating and sustaining inequities in education quality for children across our state.
Today, approximately 85% of the public school districts in Illinois are in deficit spending. Districts are forced to sacrifice programs, staff and facilities, lowering the quality of education they can provide.
We have a moral obligation to provide all students with the educational opportunities they need to succeed, supported by sustainable, adequate and equitable funding. Our Coalition is committed to work for comprehensive, systemic reform in our state's public education financing. |
